In presence of Masashi Yamamoto
The self-destructive routine of an addict office worker. The integration difficulties of a Pakistani laborer. The quest for a way-out of a Mexican female wrestler. The night wanderings of a Tokyo gang with a South Central LA attitude… Junk Food is the smash-up of those four thumbnail pictures, portraying a dark and disillusioned 1990s Japanese reality. Opening and closing on the pictures of an old blind Japanese woman dealing with everyday life, Yamamoto’s film sweeps aside current clichés and provides a window on a society rarely taking its most marginal representatives in consideration.
